How to Christmas in Bucharest

Everybody knows that Christmas is a holiday about the people around us whom we appreciate and love, but also about spending some quality time and enjoying ourselves! As most of us are free during the winter holidays, why not choose to spend this wonderful time of the year away from home, in a city where the locals have kept the Christmas tradition of food, beverages and activities untouched by the modern times. If you’re planning on spending the winter holidays in Bucharest, we are offering you the complete guide to getting the most out of Christmas this year!

Christmas Fair

Just like other European capital cities, for the past years Bucharest hosts two of the biggest Christmas Fairs in Romania, the perfect places for every winter holiday lover! Here you’ll see the most eye catching Christmas Trees and city decorations, and can also try Romanian food and beverages specific to this time of the year!

So, if you want to try out the best sweet bread (cozonac), mulled wine (vin fiert), local made sausages (cârnați tradiționali), brandy (țuică fiartă) and many more, this is the place for you! Furthermore, you will also find craftsmen and authentic Romanian products, varying from wooden spoons and toys to traditional masks and clothing.

The most popular Christmas Fairs in Bucharest are located in the city center, in Constituției Square and University Square, at just 10 minutes’ walk or 5 minutes’ drive from New Era Hotel!

Ice rinks

Why not spend the winter holidays practicing winter sports? In Bucharest you will find many modern ice rinks, whether professional or just for fun, indoor or outdoor, to suit every wish! They are also a great choice for children, as they can opt for assistance or protection gear! And if you are not the best at ice skating yourself, don’t worry, sticking to the edge of the rink will assure you both safety and lots of fun!

There are rinks all over the city, but the closest one to the New Era Hotel is also one of the most impressive in town, located in the Cișmigiu Gardens, right on the lake – just a 5 minute drive away or 15 minutes walking on the beautiful streets from New Era Hotel.

City street lights

Don’t let a 15 minutes’ winter time walk scare you! Actually, we encourage you to put on gloves and a scarf and venture on the main streets of the city and we guarantee you’ll love the decorations and all the Christmas lights!

The Town Hall has prepared 23KM of lights around the city, but the most incredible ones are right in the center! This means you can start your walk right from New Era Hotel and on the main streets – but, if you need more guidance, don’t hesitate to ask our friendly staff!

Therme

Some things aren’t meant for just one season and are a great option any time of the year, just like Therme Spa. If you haven’t heard of it yet, Therme is a combination of pools, saunas, water slides and the biggest botanical garden in Romania, where complete relaxation and well-being are the main objectives. The thermal water at a natural temperature of 33 degrees Celsius (or 92 degrees Fahrenheit) makes it the best location if you want to completely chill during the holidays!

Watch a movie and listen to Christmas hits

If you just want to get the Christmas vibe from the comfort and coziness of your hotel room, why not browse Netflix for a Christmas movie or listen to some music suited for the season (“Jingle Bells” starts playing in the background). After all, you can never watch “How the Grinch stole Christmas” or “Home Alone” too many times!

In the end, after you decide how you’re going to spend this year’s Christmas, what matters most is having your loved ones around for the most wonderful time of the year!

New Era Hotel wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
